Fins of Fury Page 9
It was just about to sink its teeth into her hand when Mark spotted it opening its mouth and scooped it onto his shoulder.
“Yeah, cos, like, moron over there has the pet fish, so the cat could be my evil sidekick … I mean pet,” Mark said.
“Well, you’d better bring her inside and we’ll get her something to eat and something to drink and a lovely warm place to sleep…” Mom was off again. Mark followed her with the vampire kitten perched on his shoulder. He looked back at us and did a quiet “Mwhaa, haaa, haaa, haaa”, and as he did it the kitten made a little “Mewww, meewww, meeww, meew” at the same time.
Frankie jumped up from the glass in my hand when he heard the kitten, and for a moment they glared at each other. The kitten licked her lips, then curled up against Mark’s shoulder.
“Hey, Mom, I think the kitten wants fish for dinner,” Mark said as he followed Mom into the house.
“Great! Now Mark’s not only gone back to being mostly evil but he’s got a mostly evil pet too. And one that likes to eat fish,” I said.
“I’d get Frankie a lid for his bowl,” Pradeep muttered.
Frankie splashed up and nodded in agreement.
“Well, I’d better get Toby back to my cousin’s house before he wanders off again,” Pradeep said.
“Hey, where is Toby?” I asked.
